I started creating Video content about 3 years back when I first started She Means Business. Initially, the idea was to create an interview series with women doing fantastic work, as an attempt to build more women role models. I called this the She Means Business Chat Show. But since I work as an experiential learning trainer, I thought now that I had created a channel, I may as well put up video content related to my work as well. I realized that video content was getting me a lot of visibility and I wanted to use it as a tool for content marketing as well.
If you want to create video content for yourself or your brand, especially if you are a solopreneur or small business owner, here are some tips that may help.
- In case you find it difficult to talk to an inanimate object, start first with creating selfie videos. These will not be high quality, but they will give you practice talking to a non living object! Since you can see yourself while filming a selfie video, you tend to feel more comfortable. I don’t advocate looking at the flip view of cameras because then your eyes are not looking straight at the camera lens and that looks warped.
- ALWAYS put together a framework of what you’re going to speak about. I don’t recommend a script, but a rough framework would be enough. Keep a paper with all the important points ready in front of you.
- It is perfectly ok to glance at a paper while you are speaking. It is authentic and remember you will be judged on your content and not on your ability to speak extempore on camera. I made this mistake earlier and I was always so nervous about forgetting what I had to say, that I made a mess of my videos.
- Invest in a collar mic. It need not be of great quality but as long as it cuts out disturbance from the surrounding environment it will be good. Yes. Even your AC can cause disturbance. Sound disturbance can be quite annoying and may result in people not viewing your video.
- There are so many types of videos you can make. You don’t necessarily have to make talking videos. The type of videos you make should be aligned with your objective.
- All channels have different types of videos that work on them. They also differ in terms of sizes, aspect ratios, cover pages etc. It is best to know all of this so you may optimize all of these conditions.
- You can edit your videos yourself. There are several apps and websites that allow you to create excellently edited videos yourself.
