I first heard Apurva speak at an event for women entrepreneurs. She was delivering the keynote address and I walked in about 5 minutes into her speech. It was the most captivating, funny and yet hard hitting speech I had heard in a long time from a woman leader.
While most discussions and panels focus on what the environment – businesses, investors, senior leadership should do to encourage gender diversity at the top, Apurva also speaks about what women should do to see themselves at the top. And I loved her for her candid approach. I could also relate to some of the excuses she lay bare that we constantly use to blame the ratios on.
When Apurva’s second book came out, I saw it as an opportunity to have her on the She Means Business Chat Show. It was a pleasure speaking with her. The most successful women, she says, are the ones who are able to co-opt everyone around them to help. Creating an eco system that will help you integrate work and life rather than trying to struggle on your own, and then blaming the struggle as an excuse to not being able to have it all, is the single biggest barrier to success.
