Before this sea of podcasts, start up platforms and Shark tank, there was Young Turks on CNBC-TV18. And this show today is the longest running show on entrepreneurship creating the largest worldwide platform on this subject – headlined by THIS woman – Shereen Bhan, Managing Editor, CNBC-TV18.
“I’ve always challenged myself to do something innovative, new and different every quarter. This includes raising my hand and volunteering to take up new ideas and projects rather than wait for someone to hand them out. This is the mindset that led me and my team to initiate Young Turks, the longest running show on entrepreneurship.”
Shereen Bhan was a role model for me. As a young woman interested in communication skills and public speaking, I followed her shows with a deep interest. She brought grace and natural curiosity – two traits that make for excellent anchoring and interviewing. A woman holding her own, asking tough questions, breaking down the economy with clarity and grace – Dipika Singh, Founder – She Means Business.
Shereen biggest strengths have been her discipline and her hard work.
“I’ve never been underestimated. In fact I’ve always raised my hand for new projects, interesting tasks.” The trick is to surround yourself with people who have a vision for you even before you have a vision for yourself, who believe in you before you even believe in yourself
Young Turks was a result of Shereen’s initiative to build a community and narrative around young and first generation entrepreneurs. And today, 23 years later, it is the largest platform supporting entrepreneurship in the world
Shereen pursued Philosophy at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and further honed her communication skills with a master’s degree in Communication Studies from the University of Pune, specializing in film and television.
Shereen’s foray into journalism began as a news researcher for Karan Thapar’s Infotainment Television. She then transitioned to UTV’s News and Current Affairs division, contributing to notable shows like “We the People” for Star TV and “Line of Fire” for SAB TV. Her dedication and passion led her to CNBC-TV18 in 1999.
Over two decades later, she’s still at it. Still sharp. Still curious. Still proving that power doesn’t come from how loudly you speak, but from how well you listen.
In 2013 Shereen became the Managing Editor at CNBC – TV18.
Throughout her illustrious career, Shereen has had the privilege of interviewing some of the most influential figures in global business and politics. Her interviews include conversations with legendary investor Warren Buffet, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Virgin Group founder Richard Branson, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, and former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi. These interviews have provided deep insights into the minds of global leaders and have been instrumental in shaping public understanding of various industries. And in each interview, each conversation, Shereen brought prepared questions but was clearly not limited by them. She brought deep research, knowledge and the ease of conversation to make each interview a deeply insightful experience.
Beyond her roles in front of the camera, Shereen has been instrumental in shaping business journalism in India. As the Managing Editor of CNBC-TV18 since 2013, she has guided the channel’s editorial vision, ensuring comprehensive and insightful coverage of business news. Shereen is, if I may use the term – an old school journalist – putting accuracy above speed and staying away from click bait sensationalism yet providing cutting edge information.
Shereen is a role model for women wanting to build a stellar career.
